Books sit open on a desk, or perhaps a coffee table. A glass of wine sits half-finished on the corner. It’s as though the owner has just stepped outside the room for just a moment, perhaps to answer the doorbell or take a phone call. But who is this person who has just left you alone in her private, cozy space? Do you respect the privacy of the moment, or does your curiosity compel you to look closer? What clues do the books and other items on the table offer? There are art books, so maybe she’s an artist. Is the open volume on the corner of the table just another art book, or might it be a journal? She left it open… do you merely glance at it, do you look closely, or do you avoid it entirely, trying to mind your own business?
This artwork invites the viewer into an intimate space, but without a figure, the circumstances are — or could be — almost voyeuristic. What conclusions might you draw from the books and other objects on the table?
